Easter. A glorious celebration, not of sugary little peeps, colorful jelly beans, or a gigantic sized furry bunny. It is glorious because this is the completion of God's love toward us. And one cannot truly appreciate the glory of the Resurrection without first going back 3 days prior. Jesus died on a cross...and it was more than just that. He suffered for us. Why? Because He loves us. As uncomfortable as it may seem to talk about, it must be said. We are sinners; meaning we are not perfect and therefore cannot be with a perfect God. 1 John 4:10 says: In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation (payment) for our sins. In Isaiah 53 (text that was written long before Jesus was crucified) it says: Surely He has born our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him; and by His stripes we are healed. Jesus suffered. He died. For us. But that is not the end of the story. He conquered death and raised from the dead. He is alive and that is what Christianity is all about. Nothing more, and certainly nothing less. He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world. 1 John 2:2 For the wages of sin is death, but the Gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
I am no Biblical scholar nor am I a Christian apologist. But I do know God loves me. I know this beyond a shadow of a doubt. And I know that if you research it yourself, read God's word, ask your questions...then you will find that He loves you too.
Happy Resurrection Day!
