New year, new home!

We are officially homeowners! We bought a 1948 ranch style home and all the issues that come with it :) It was a short sale which means it was a very long process! But it is a house and we have been working hard to make it our home. To put the "working hard" into perspective, we closed on the house the 3rd week of January and I am writing this post from my parents' house because we are still not moved in! In addition to the amount of work this house has needed, we have had limited time! Aaron has been working 50-60 hours per week and I have been working 3-4 days per week. PLUS we have an almost two year old who we rather enjoy hanging out with :)


We'll give you a tour of the house through pictures and give you a glimpse of the process we have been through-


Our yard is huge! We have had many discussions of what we picture for the both the front and back, but for right now we are focusing on the inside so we can move in already! I am happy to report that there is a plum, tangerine, and orange tree on our property- yum!

This is a shed built by the man who built the house! We actually met that man's grand-daughter. She came over and walked through the house pointing out what was original and what had changed. She said that her grand-father was in the miltary and had the only phone in town. Before he had the phone, there was one phone located at the gas station down on the corner!

Follow those stairs to through what was the secret door and you find yourself in the garrage that was converted into the family room.

Now open that white door into the utility room. We hope to do a lot of work in this section of the house- but I won't reveal what is in our think bubbles just yet!

We knew going into the purchase that there was some water damage around the two windows on the south side of the house and some termite damage as stated in the pest report. But little did we know the extent those subterranean little termites could cause! We ended up completely gutting the bathroom and replacing studs in multiple walls. This meant more demolition than I was comfortable with. I am thankful that my husband felt capable and comfortable to undertake this project house. And let me tell you, I have learned that Aaron is very handy. AND, this process has reinforced my knowledge of his extreme talent as a designer. I cannot wait to show you the progress we have made, but for now we will continue the tour with "pre-pretty" pictures.

(We had some water damage around the south window in his room and in the master bedroom shown below. We decided to see the extent of the damage to the entire wall and pulled off all of the drywall. it's a good thing we did because we found a hole in the stucco right above Eli's window. You could see daylight right through it! Aaron also pointed out that the windows were obviously not the original and were not intalled correctly either. The header fails to run the length of the window!)

The kitchen is nice though not completely our style. We plan on giving it a facelift and then do a remodel down the road.
