we were thankful that aaron's mom was able to fly up and watch bandit for us as we went on our adventures, and even more so, thankful that she was finally able to meet our bundle of joy :)
we began our adventure flying into d.c. and spent 2 whole days walking all over the capitol area. d.c. is really a place where you could spend more than a week exploring but we did our best to see all of the main monuments and memorials (from the capitol building, the library of congress, and the supreme court to the washington memorial, lincoln memorial, and jefferson memorial)- in 2 days-whew!
the capitol building was so pretty. there were amazing statues of past presidents and the rooms were so grand. there was a tunnel connecting the capitol with the library of congress- oh what a beautiful place. it rivaled with anything we saw in rome with its marble columns, statues, and mosaics.
that is me (andrea) at the very top sitting by the 2nd column from the right of the supreme court building. we found on this trip that we had the use the elevators because that stroller is hard to carry up stairs!
we continued walking over to the washington memorial and then headed north to the white house.
then we circled on back to make it to the lincoln memorial for sunset.
we walked for miles over a span of hours and needless to say we were exhausted! day 2 was just as long. we started off early again, had breakfast at lincoln's waffle house, and walked to union station to pick up our rental car. it was such a beautiful day and we made sure to soak up all of the vitamin D we could get :)
across the street from the waffle house was ford's theater where president lincoln was assassinated (pictured above).
below is arlington national cemetary where we spent the afternoon. we saw where president kennedy is buried as well as the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier.
as i mentioned earlier, d.c. is a place that you could spend more than a week...and we decided to stay one more night. so we pricelined a hotel and got a great deal. eli really liked it too :)
day 2 was also an important day because it was aaron's birthday! we found a nice little pizzeria to celebrate. and we ended with the jefferson memorial and another visit to the capitol building at night. it was stunning.

thanks renee :) we didn't go into the white house this trip, but we would love to go back. there is just so much to do there.
