After Glasgow, we headed east toward the Cumberland Gap. On the way we found Cumberland Falls and had a good walk around the landscape.
After our walk it started quickly getting dark. We decided we wanted to see the Appalachians in the day time so we found a nice cabin like hotel to stay the night.
One of my favorite moments of the whole trip was the morning after we stayed at that hotel. After a warm nights sleep we started our drive; the fog was still resting on the mountain- scape and I had a cup of coffee in hand. Aaron drove down the windy road with Elias talking and talking in the bcack seat. What a beautiful drive through the Appalachians during the fall with my little family; I felt so very thankful in that moment.
We made a stop in the quaint town called Pineville, right on the KT/TN border.

Just outside of Pineville was a road going up...and if you know anything about my husband, you know that he has this burning flame of curiosity deep inside of him. And because of his curiosity, we often find some really beautiful places. Laurel Cove Amphitheater was one of those places.

Finally we came to the Cumberland Gap where we did a nice hike to see the tri peak point (the intersection of Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia). It was neat to see and be in the place where Daniel Boone led the settlers through the Appalachians.
The Cumberland Gap was a very coveted spot during the Civil War. Each side held it at some point during the war and found that it wasn't all that great of a spot so would move on and the other side would possess/repossess the spot. Turns out no battle ever took place here. Below is Elias on top of an old canon.
